What Was the Name of the First Motorcycle Club? If You Think It’s Hells Angels, You’re Wrong…

When you think ‘Motorcycle Club’, Hells Angels is probably the first MC that comes to mind. We thought that too, but after doing research, we found out that Hells Angels was actually the first outlaw MC, but they weren’t the first motorcycle club. That title belongs to Yonkers Motorcycle Club in New York.

When was the First Motorcycle Club Started?

Yonkers MC was founded in 1903 in Yonkers, New York. The Yonkers Motorcycle Club actually started as the Yonkers Bicycle Club. The Bicycle Club was founded by Elliott Mason in 1879 and consisted of 25 men. A member of the Yonkers Bicycle Club, George Ellis, became Yonkers Motorcycle Club’s first president by election and votes.

Is Yonkers MC Still a Club?

They sure are! In 1952, the Yonkers Motorcycle Club was officially incorporated within New York State. Today, the Club operates as a public charity, giving back to many organizations within Yonkers.

In June of 2019, the Yonkers Motorcycle Club was recognized and registered by the United States Patent and Trademark Office as the Oldest Motorcycle Club in The World.
